filed/accepted 2/3. 2/10 got code 151 on WMR & Codes 766, 810 & 420 all n that order. I don’t have a code 971 & no notice received. I need to fix something but since I have code 420 & no notice yet I was wondering do I wait until I get my notice regarding 420 or can I go ahead and amend right now?

I filed and my return was accepted on 2/3. On 2/10, I noticed code 151 on WMR, along with codes 766, 810, and 420 in that order. I haven’t received a code 971 or any notice. I need to make a correction, but since I have code 420 and haven’t received a notice yet, should I wait for the notice regarding code 420, or can I go ahead and make the amendment now?

  1. It sounds like you’re navigating the IRS codes and trying to figure out your next steps. Code 420 generally refers to a notice that the IRS has made a change to your account, but it may take some time for the official notice to arrive. If you believe you need to amend your return due to an error or omission, you can typically go ahead and file an amended return (Form 1040-X) even before receiving the notice. Just be sure to clarify the reason for the amendment and keep careful records of all correspondence. It might be wise to monitor your account status and any changes that come with the notice, as you want to make sure your amendment doesn’t conflict with any adjustments the IRS is making. If you’re uncertain, you might want to consider contacting the IRS directly or consulting with a tax professional for more personalized advice.
