For those of you who didn’t get a raise and/or bonus, was it explicitly said you weren’t getting one?

For those who didn’t receive a raise or bonus, has it been clearly communicated to you that you won’t be getting one? Or was there simply no mention of it? Our annual performance reviews took place nearly two months ago, and our controller only mentioned that discussions about merit increases and bonuses would happen “later.” That was the extent of the communication with our team. I meet with my manager twice a week, but he hasn’t brought it up either. I did receive a generic email from HR stating that bonuses for those eligible will be paid at the end of the month. However, since my manager hasn’t provided any information, can I assume I’m not receiving one? It seems unlikely that they wouldn’t have determined who will receive what by now. I’ve consistently received positive performance reviews since I started, and in the two years I’ve been here, I’ve only seen a $2k salary increase and a title change to senior, without any pay raise.

  1. It sounds like a frustrating situation, especially after good performance reviews and your contributions to the team. It’s concerning that there hasn’t been clear communication from your manager or HR about raises and bonuses. While it’s possible that decisions are still being finalized, the lack of information does make it seem like you might not be receiving anything this time.

It may be helpful to bring this up directly in your one-on-one meetings with your manager. You could express your appreciation for the previous feedback and your desire for clarity regarding your compensation. Sometimes, expressing interest in understanding the process can prompt a more detailed conversation. If you still don’t get a satisfactory answer, it might be worth considering your options moving forward, especially if you feel your contributions aren’t being recognized. Good luck!
