Competent people are always the meanest

Why do the most competent people tend to be the meanest?

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve noticed that the strongest performers in the office often have the worst attitudes. Even though it can be frustrating and I wish they would go away, they’re just too valuable to the company. Their skills overshadow their behavior, which is incredibly frustrating. It’s like, sorry if we’re not all as quick-witted and sharp as you! I get it, you find things easy, but many of us are genuinely trying our best, even if we aren’t as fast.

When they do decide to help, they always find a way to make you feel small about it. I really want to learn, but dealing with their attitude makes it tough.

Sometimes I wish I were smarter, just so I wouldn’t have to put up with their snarky remarks!

  1. It sounds like you’re really feeling the weight of working alongside someone who is both competent and difficult to deal with. It’s frustrating to see someone excel at their job but fail to show basic kindness and support to their colleagues. It’s important to remember that being good at a job doesn’t automatically make someone a good person or a great leader.

It can be tough to stay motivated in that kind of environment, especially when you’re trying your best to learn and grow. Have you considered talking to them directly about how their comments make you feel? Sometimes, people don’t realize the impact of their words and may be open to changing their approach if given the opportunity.

Also, don’t forget that intelligence comes in many forms, and everyone has their own strengths. Focus on your growth and learning, and don’t let their negativity overshadow your progress. Surround yourself with supportive colleagues who can help encourage you. You’ve got this!
