What was your experience like as a new hire during Busy Season?
As I prepare for my own busy season, I’m curious about what new employees typically encounter during this time. Specifically, I’d like to know what expectations they had and whether they were able to meet them in their initial months.
Personally, I’m finding it challenging to hit 55 billable hours, even while putting in weekend hours. So far, I haven’t experienced any negative feedback, but I’m curious if this is a common situation for newcomers and if I can expect to have more work opportunities as I settle in.

Starting out during Busy Season can definitely be a challenge, especially for new hires. From my experience, it’s common to feel a bit overwhelmed, especially when trying to adjust to the high demands and expectations right off the bat.
Many firms understand that new hires are still learning and getting acclimated, so it’s normal not to hit those high billable hour targets right away. You’re not alone in struggling to reach the threshold; it’s something many new employees face during their first busy season.
Expectations can vary by firm, but generally, new hires are encouraged to seek feedback and actively communicate with supervisors about their workload. As you gain experience and build confidence in your role, you’ll find more opportunities coming your way.
Don’t hesitate to express any concerns you have about your workload or seek mentorship from more experienced colleagues—they can offer valuable advice and support. Remember, it’s all part of the learning curve, and your commitment to working those weekends is a strong sign of your dedication. With time, you’ll likely find your rhythm and increase your billable hours as you become more familiar with the work and processes. Hang in there!
