I couldn’t have picked a worse time to move towns, huh?

Could I have chosen a worse time to move?

I’m 26 and currently living with my parents in a town I no longer want to be in. I’ve felt this way for a while, but saving up for a move takes time. I really need to get out, but I’m feeling uncertain about job opportunities. As an Executive Assistant working towards my CPA, I have some qualifications on my side, but I’m still worried. My hometown has a low cost of living, but the salary differences in larger cities seem minimal.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a tough spot, but it’s great that you’re acknowledging what you want and taking steps toward it. Moving can be daunting, especially with the uncertainties around job prospects. Being an EA and working toward your CPA is definitely a solid foundation—those qualifications have demand in many cities.

If you’re worried about job opportunities, you might consider networking in the cities you’re interested in moving to. Online platforms like LinkedIn can also help you connect with potential employers or colleagues in your field. Additionally, researching companies beforehand and applying for jobs even before you move could give you some peace of mind.

You’re right that the cost of living can vary, and it’s definitely something to factor into your decision. Maybe you can explore cities that have a balance of lower living costs and reasonable salaries for your field.

Keep focusing on your goals and take it one step at a time. You’re not alone in feeling anxious about making such a big change, but pushing through it can lead to exciting new opportunities. You’ve got this!
