Looking for advice
I would really appreciate any insights or advice you might have. During my internship, the majority of my workload involved moving around 10,000 disorganized files from Google Drive to OneDrive. It was overwhelming, with six subfolders for every email related to a single client engagement. I genuinely tried to meet the expected billable hours, but then I was told I had billed too much, even though I had actually underbilled by about an hour. My manager insisted that I adjust the hours billed, and unfortunately, my office ended up being the only one where no one on the tax team received a return offer. I’m still feeling down about this six months later. Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. It’s frustrating when you put in the effort and still don’t feel recognized or rewarded for it. Here are a few thoughts that might help you moving forward:

    1. Focus on Learning: Remember that every experience, even frustrating ones, can provide valuable lessons. Think about what skills you gained and how you can apply them in the future.

    2. Networking: Use this opportunity to connect with people in your field. Attend industry events, reach out on LinkedIn, or join professional groups. Networking can often lead to better opportunities in the future.

    3. Seek Feedback: If possible, get feedback from your internship supervisor or peers on your performance. It can be difficult to hear, but constructive criticism can help you improve.

    4. Refine Your Skills: Consider taking courses or certifications that can enhance your skills, especially in areas like organization or project management. This could set you apart in future applications.

    5. Start Fresh: Although it’s tough to move on, try to reframe this experience as a stepping stone. Each job is a new opportunity, and you can leave the past behind as you seek a new position.

    6. Stay Positive: It’s normal to feel sad about missed opportunities, but try to focus on your strengths and what you can bring to your next role. Maintaining a positive outlook can really help during your job search.

You’re not alone in feeling this way, and many people face challenges during internships. Keep pushing forward, and know that the right opportunity is out there for you!
