I’m trying to decide which college would be the best fit for pursuing a degree in finance. My top choices are UNC Charlotte, NJIT, and Rutgers Newark.
If I choose Charlotte, I plan to transfer to Chapel Hill later on, and if I opt for Rutgers, I’d aim to switch to the New Brunswick campus.
I’ve heard positive things about all three schools, and they all have great locations near major cities. Despite my uncertainty, I’m leaning towards Charlotte at the moment.
Also, I should mention that I will eventually qualify for in-state tuition at these colleges. Any advice or insights would be appreciated!

It sounds like you have some solid options in front of you! Here are a few points to consider for each school:
UNC Charlotte: It has been gaining a strong reputation for its business programs, especially within the finance field. If you’re planning to eventually transfer to Chapel Hill, that could be a great move, as UNC Chapel Hill has a highly regarded business school (Kenan-Flagler) with a strong focus on finance. Additionally, being in the Charlotte area, which is a major financial hub with many banks and financial firms, offers excellent internship and networking opportunities.
NJIT: While NJIT is primarily known for its engineering and technical programs, its business programs are also strong. However, if your focus is strictly on finance, you might not find it as robust as the more established business schools. The proximity to Newark and New York City can definitely provide great internship options, but consider whether the school’s strengths align with your career goals in finance.
Rutgers Newark: Rutgers has a well-established reputation and a solid business school with a focus on finance. Transferring to the New Brunswick campus could also be a good route, as it offers even more resources and networking opportunities. Additionally, being in New Jersey gives good access to the finance sector in New York City.
Ultimately, whether you lean towards UNC Charlotte or one of the Rutgers campuses depends on what you prioritize most—school reputation, the strength of the finance program, or regional opportunities. If you’re committed to transferring to a more prestigious campus and UNC Chapel Hill impresses you, going with Charlotte could be a smart choice. But if you want a program that’s reputable in finance from the start, Rutgers Newark might serve you well.
Consider visiting the campuses, talking to current students or alumni, and evaluating the specific finance programs to help make your decision. Good luck!
