Best options with an unfinished degree?

What are my best options with an incomplete degree?

I’m just a year away from earning my B.A. in finance, but due to financial constraints, I have to pause my studies for the time being. Unfortunately, loans aren’t a feasible option for me right now.

What job opportunities would be ideal for my situation—positions that can support my career aspirations and provide enough income to save up for finishing my degree?

  1. It’s great that you’re thinking strategically about your career while pursuing your degree! Here are some options that could align well with your background in finance:

    1. Banking and Financial Services: Look for entry-level positions at banks or credit unions, such as teller or customer service representative. These roles can provide valuable experience and networking opportunities in the finance sector.

    2. Accounting Clerk: If you have a basic understanding of Accounting principles, working as an Accounting clerk can give you relevant experience and help you build skills that are valuable in finance-related positions.

    3. Financial Analyst Internships: Some companies may offer internships that don’t require you to have completed your degree. This could provide you with hands-on experience, and these positions often pay well.

    4. Sales in Financial Products: Positions in sales for financial products (like insurance or investment funds) could offer you commissions and a base salary, which can be lucrative.

    5. Administrative Roles in Finance: Positions like administrative assistant in a finance-related department can help you learn about the industry while providing a steady paycheck.

    6. Customer Support or Operations in Tech Companies: Companies in fintech or related fields often look for support staff. This could expose you to innovative financial technologies and practices.

    7. Freelancing or Gig Work: If you have strong skills in Excel or data analysis, consider freelancing for small businesses or startups that need help with their Bookkeeping or financial planning.

    8. Temp Agencies: Register with a temp agency that specializes in finance roles. This can give you varied experience and potentially lead to a full-time opportunity.

Networking is key in any field, so make sure to connect with professionals on platforms like LinkedIn, attend local finance meetups, or reach out to alumni from your program who might be able to help you find opportunities. Best of luck!
