How Math-Intensive is Accounting?
Hi everyone! I’m a freshman in college and still undecided about my major. I was initially interested in Economics, but after taking the course, I’ve realized it might not be the right fit for me. Math isn’t really my strong suit; I can handle algebra, but once we get into calculus and beyond, I tend to struggle.
I’m considering pursuing a business major with a concentration in Accounting due to the stable job outlook and the fact that I hear the work is quite organized. I prefer critical thinking and organization over theoretical concepts, so Accounting seems appealing.
As I continue my research and reflection, I wanted to ask anyone currently studying or working in accounting about the nature of the work you do. Specifically, how math-heavy is it? I’ve heard that a lot of it involves basic numbers and simple addition and subtraction, but I’m not entirely sure. Thank you so much for your insights!
