PA in 2008
Is there anyone in this group who worked in Pennsylvania during 2008? What was your experience like? I’m particularly interested in hearing from those who were part of smaller firms, as I understand that experiences can vary widely depending on the size of the company.
One response
Working as a PA in 2008, especially in a smaller firm, came with its unique set of challenges and experiences. The financial crisis hit that year, and many businesses faced uncertainty, which often trickled down to smaller firms.
In smaller firms, you might have found a more intimate work environment where you wore multiple hats—handling administrative tasks, client interactions, and possibly even some project-related duties. This often fostered a sense of camaraderie among colleagues, as everyone had to pull together to navigate the tough economic landscape.
On the flip side, job security may have felt precarious during this time. Many smaller firms struggled to maintain their client base, which could result in stress and a heavier workload for the remaining staff. However, this also provided an opportunity to develop skills and become more versatile, as roles often expanded out of necessity.
Networking and building relationships with clients became even more critical, as retaining existing clients was essential amid the uncertainty. Overall, it was a period that required adaptability, resilience, and resourcefulness, qualities that many PA professionals took with them into future roles.
If you have specific aspects of the role you’re curious about or want to discuss further, feel free to share!
