Should I postpone my CA final exams?
I passed my CA intermediate in September 2024, but I haven’t secured an articleship yet. Additionally, I have a significant family event (my sister’s wedding) coming up in May, which is keeping me quite occupied with preparations. Should I wait to start my articleship until after the wedding, considering I’ll need time off? I’m aiming to join one of the Big 4 or Big 6 firms.

It’s understandable that you’re feeling uncertain about whether to defer your CA final exams. Here are a few points to consider that might help you make your decision:
Preparation Time: If you feel that you won’t be able to dedicate enough time to prepare for your CA finals due to the wedding preparations, it might be wise to defer. You want to ensure that you enter the exam with confidence and readiness.
Articleship Experience: Gaining articleship experience is crucial for your career. If you defer your exams and focus on securing a position in the Big 4 or Big 6 after the wedding, this could provide you with valuable experience that will benefit you in your exams and future career.
Work-Life Balance: Family events like weddings can be demanding. If you feel this could significantly distract you from your studies, it would be better to prioritize your family commitments and take the exams later when you can be more focused.
Long-term Goals: Consider your long-term goals. If securing a position in a Big 4 or Big 6 firm is important to you, and those firms are competitive, perhaps it’s worth waiting to start your articleship after the wedding.
Consult with Mentors: It might also be helpful to talk to your mentors, fellow students, or professionals in the field. Their experiences may provide insights that can help your decision.
Ultimately, trusting your gut and what feels right for you is key. Balancing personal commitments and career goals is important, so take the time you need to reflect on what’s best for you. Good luck!
