Clarification Needed
- NOV ’23: G1 – Fail
- MAY ’24: G1 – Pass
- SEP ’24: G2 – Fail
- JAN ’25: G2 – Pass
Could anyone clarify how many attempts firms or HRs generally consider for articleship?
In my view, it took a total of two attempts to clear the intermediate exams. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Thanks for sharing your timeline! From what you’ve described, it looks like you attempted G1 twice (one fail, one pass) and G2 twice as well (one fail, one pass). In terms of how firms or HRs view this, it’s typically common practice to count the number of attempts based on the segments you’ve attempted.
In your case, since you passed G1 on the second attempt and G2 on the second attempt, many firms may consider it as having taken two attempts overall to clear the inter level (once for each group).
However, some may take a more lenient view, considering the overall journey and outcome, especially if you can demonstrate continuous improvement and commitment.
It’s always a good idea to clarify your experience in your interviews, emphasizing your persistence and dedication, which many HRs value. What do others think? Would love to hear more perspectives!
