Considering an Accounting Major?
I’m 23 and about to earn my associate’s degree in criminal justice, but I’m feeling uncertain about my career options with that degree. I had initially thought about law school, but managing that with a full-time job seems overwhelming.
Now, I’m thinking about switching to Accounting, but I have concerns about my math skills. I had a tough time passing statistics, failing it twice. Is the math involved in Accounting similar to what I encountered in statistics?

It’s great that you’re considering your options and thinking about the future! Accounting can be a solid choice, especially since it offers a clear career path and a steady job market.
Regarding your concern about math: Accounting does involve some math, but it primarily focuses on basic arithmetic, and you’ll use percentages and simple calculations more than advanced math or statistics. Many students who find math challenging can succeed in Accounting by focusing on the concepts and applying them in practical scenarios.
If you’re worried about struggling, consider taking a few introductory accounting classes or speaking with academic advisors to get a feel for what to expect. It might also be helpful to get some resources or tutoring to help strengthen your math skills before diving in.
Lastly, think about what interests you most: if you enjoy the detail-oriented nature of accounting and see yourself in that field, it might be worth pursuing despite your current concerns. Good luck!
