Title: Am I a “Nepo” Hire?
My dad helped me get an interview with a company, but is it fair to say he got me the job?
My dad is not a client or a big shot businessman with the company that recently hired me. However, he has a friend who works there and he asked if he could help me out. His friend referred my CV to the company’s recruitment department, which led to me getting an interview. After going through 1 exploratory Teams meeting and 3 in-person interviews, I was offered the job. Does this mean that my dad played a significant role in me getting hired?

It’s natural to feel unsure or question whether you are a “Nepo” hire when family connections are involved in the hiring process. In your case, your dad’s friend may have referred your CV to the company, but it seems like you still had to go through the standard interview process and prove your qualifications to ultimately land the job.
It’s important to remember that many people get jobs through networking or referrals, and having someone put in a good word for you doesn’t necessarily mean you were hired solely because of that connection. Employers are usually looking for the best candidate for the job, and if you went through multiple interviews and demonstrated your skills and abilities, it’s likely that you were hired based on your merits.
That being said, it’s crucial to focus on excelling in your new role and proving yourself through your work ethic and performance. Ultimately, your success in the job will be the best indicator of whether you were a worthy hire, regardless of how you initially landed the opportunity. Each person’s path to a job is unique, and what matters most is how you make the most of the opportunity once you have it.
