My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Embarking on a New Journey: Seeking Insights for a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture

After years of dedicated service in the Accounting and Bookkeeping field, my wife has taken the exciting leap to launch her own freelance Bookkeeping practice. With a rich background spanning 15 to 20 years, she has honed her skills in various capacities, including roles as a staff accountant and supervisor overseeing payroll for over 800 employees. Her diverse experience also encompasses positions such as office manager/bookkeeper for a real estate developer, and work with construction, painting, and automotive companies.

Equipped with extensive knowledge of QuickBooks and on the cusp of completing all available QuickBooks certifications, her professional website is nearing its launch. She has prepared engagement letters and updated her resume to reflect her expertise, making her ready to attract clients.

My wife has chosen not to venture into tax services and is not a CPA or EA. Instead, she is focused on providing efficient, cost-effective bookkeeping solutions, particularly for small to mid-sized businesses and newer ventures. Her skill set includes cleaning up disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, creating balance sheets, and offering actionable advice on cost-cutting strategies—all of which she can execute effortlessly. A key component of her approach will be the automation of bookkeeping tasks to enhance efficiency.

To kick off her client acquisition strategy, we’re looking to partner with local CPA firms. In this regard, I would like to seek advice from seasoned freelance bookkeepers: what is the best way to introduce her services to these firms? Should we initiate contact through email, a phone call, or perhaps an in-person visit? Additionally, any tips for making a strong first impression would be greatly appreciated.

We are planning to operate on an hourly billing model, and I remain open to any recommendations for securing clients or general strategies for establishing her practice.

Thank you for your insights! Your input will be invaluable as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her professional journey.
