Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Guidance on Client Acquisition

As my wife embarks on the exciting journey of becoming a freelance bookkeeper, she is seeking advice from seasoned professionals in the field. After dedicating between 15 to 20 years in various Accounting and Bookkeeping roles, she is ready to take the leap into entrepreneurship.

Her extensive experience includes managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, serving as an office manager/bookkeeper for a real estate developer, and overseeing financial operations for a construction firm, painting company, and auto mechanic shop. With such a diverse background, she is well-prepared to assist a wide range of businesses.

Currently, my wife is honing her skills with QuickBooks, completing all available certifications to ensure she provides top-notch service to her future clients. Her website is nearing completion, and she has successfully finalized her engagement letter and updated her résumé. She is on the verge of launching her marketing efforts to attract clients.

Importantly, my wife will not be offering tax services, nor is she a certified public accountant (CPA) or enrolled agent (EA). Instead, she aims to focus on smaller, mid-sized, and newer companies by providing a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. With her confidence in cleaning up disorganized accounts, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities, she is prepared to deliver valuable insights to her clients. Automation will also play a significant role in her services, streamlining processes for efficiency.

Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. To maximize her chances of making a strong first impression, we would like your thoughts on the best method for this initial outreach. Should she consider sending an email, making phone calls, or perhaps visiting in person? Any additional tips for creating a positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.

Furthermore, we welcome any other suggestions on how she can effectively land clients and build a successful bookkeeping practice. Your insights would be invaluable as she embarks on this new professional chapter.

Thank you for your guidance!
