Taking the Leap: A Journey Into Freelance Bookkeeping
After years of dedicated service in the Accounting and Bookkeeping industry, my wife is excited to embrace a new chapter—venturing out to start her freelance Bookkeeping business. With rich experience spanning 15 to 20 years, she has successfully donned multiple hats, including roles as a staff accountant and an office manager across various sectors. Her background involves managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, and she has also contributed to real estate development, construction, and automotive services.
Recognizing her extensive skill set, she has developed a strong proficiency in QuickBooks and is diligently working toward completing all available certifications offered by the software. Her website is nearing launch, and she has finalized essential documents, such as her engagement letter and an updated resume. She’s on the brink of promoting her services to potential clients.
It’s important to note that my wife will not be providing tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an Enrolled Agent. Instead, her focus is on smaller and mid-sized businesses, especially newer ventures seeking cost-effective Bookkeeping solutions. She’s adept at organizing chaotic financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and offering invaluable insights into cost-saving measures. Additionally, she places a strong emphasis on automation, aiming to streamline processes for her clients effectively.
To kick off her marketing strategy, we plan to connect with local CPA firms. This brings me to a pivotal question: What is the most effective method to initiate contact? Should we reach out via email, make a phone call, or perhaps visit in person? We are also eager to learn any other tips for making a strong first impression that could set the stage for a fruitful partnership.
Regarding her service model, we are looking to offer hourly billing rates. We would welcome any suggestions on acquiring clients or general advice that could bolster her freelance bookkeeping endeavors.
Thank you for your insights and support as we embark on this exciting new journey!
