Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture: Seeking Guidance from Industry Veterans
Embarking on a new journey in the freelance world can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially for those who have spent years honing their skills in a structured environment. My wife is poised to make this leap, stepping away from traditional employment to establish her own Bookkeeping service, and we’re eager to connect with seasoned professionals for their insights.
With 15-20 years of experience in various Accounting roles—ranging from staff accountant and payroll supervisor at a large cable company to office manager for a real estate developer and a plethora of other ventures—she is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of Bookkeeping. Her expertise extends to QuickBooks, where she’s diligently completing all available certifications, and her website is nearing completion. Additionally, she has crafted an engagement letter and updated her resume, positioning herself for the launch of her business.
It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and is not a CPA or EA. Instead, her target clientele includes small to mid-sized businesses and startups, providing a cost-effective solution for those in need. With a knack for sorting out disorganized finances, presenting profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities, she is eager to implement automation to streamline operations for her clients.
Our initial strategy is to connect with local CPA firms, and we’d appreciate input on the best way to approach these professionals. Should we reach out via email, make a phone call, or even visit in person? Any advice on how to make a memorable first impression would be tremendously helpful.
We also welcome additional tips for attracting clients and building a robust freelance Accounting practice. Our intention is to operate on an hourly billing model, and any insights on pricing strategies would be beneficial as well.
Thank you for your support and guidance as we navigate this new chapter!
