My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Embarking on a New Journey: Tips for Freelance Bookkeepers

After years of dedicated service in the Accounting and Bookkeeping industry, my wife is excited to take the plunge into freelance work. With nearly two decades of experience, she is ready to launch her own Bookkeeping practice, and we are seeking insights from seasoned professionals to help her along this journey.

Her background includes a diverse range of roles—ranging from a staff accountant overseeing payroll for a large cable company to serving as an office manager and bookkeeper for various businesses, including a real estate developer, a construction firm, a painting company, and an auto repair shop. This extensive experience has equipped her with a robust understanding of the complexities of Bookkeeping.

Currently, she is finalizing her website and has completed her engagement letter and updated resume. She is also pursuing additional certifications in QuickBooks to enhance her expertise. With all this groundwork laid, she is eager to start reaching out to potential clients.

It’s important to note that she won’t be providing tax services as she is not a CPA or an enrolled agent. Instead, her focus will be on catering to smaller, mid-sized, and newer businesses, offering them an efficient and budget-friendly bookkeeping solution. Her skills include cleaning up disorganized accounts, generating financial reports, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities, all while emphasizing automation to streamline processes.

Our initial strategy involves networking with local CPA firms. However, we are uncertain about the best approach to make a lasting impression. Would it be more effective to reach out via email, make a phone call, or visit in person? Additionally, we welcome any tips on creating a positive first impression, as well as general advice on acquiring clients.

As we prepare to bill on an hourly basis, we are open to any additional suggestions that could aid in attracting clients and building a successful freelance bookkeeping practice.

Thank you for your support!
