Starting a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insight from Industry Experts
Launching into the world of freelance Bookkeeping is an exciting and pivotal moment, especially after years of dedicated experience in the field. My wife is on the brink of this new venture and could use some guidance from seasoned Bookkeeping professionals.
With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and bookkeeping, she is well-equipped for this new chapter. Her diverse roles have ranged from a staff accountant and supervisor managing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company to an office manager and bookkeeper for various businesses, including a real estate developer and a construction firm. This wealth of knowledge positions her to provide valuable services to prospective clients.
As she wraps up her final QuickBooks certifications and polishes her soon-to-be-launched website, she is almost ready to hit the ground running. Her engagement letter and resume are also finalized, and she is eager to begin marketing her services.
It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services, as she is not a CPA or Enrolled Agent. Her focus will be on assisting smaller, mid-sized, and emerging businesses looking for cost-effective solutions. With a knack for organizing financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and offering cost-cutting advice, she’s confident in her ability to deliver exceptional support. Automating processes is also a key priority for her approach.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms, and I would love to hear recommendations on effective ways to make that first contact. Would it be best to start with an email, make a phone call, or perhaps visit in person? Additionally, any tips on how to leave a lasting impression during these outreach attempts would be greatly appreciated.
We plan to charge clients on an hourly basis, and we’re also open to any additional suggestions on how to secure new clients or general advice that could enhance her practice.
Thank you for your insights!
