My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Embracing Freelancing: A Journey into Bookkeeping

As my wife embarks on an exciting new chapter in her professional journey, she is preparing to transition from working as an employee in Accounting to establishing her own freelance Bookkeeping business. With nearly two decades of experience in the field, she is well-equipped to take on this challenge.

Her background includes serving as a staff accountant and supervising payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company. She has honed her skills in diverse roles, from office manager/bookkeeper in real estate development and construction to a crucial Bookkeeping position at an auto mechanic shop. This extensive experience has made her proficient in various Accounting practices and tools.

Currently, my wife is in the final stages of launching her business. She is completing several QuickBooks certifications to enhance her qualifications and finalize her professional website. With an engagement letter and a polished resume in hand, she is ready to start reaching out to potential clients.

It’s important to note that while she will focus on providing Bookkeeping services, she will not be offering tax services and is not a CPA or EA. Her target market primarily consists of small to mid-sized businesses and new entrepreneurs looking for a cost-effective solution. She excels at cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying areas for cost reduction. Additionally, she prioritizes automating bookkeeping processes to boost efficiency.

Our initial strategy involves approaching local CPA firms. For those who are familiar with this process, I would appreciate your insights on the best way to connect with these firms. Should my wife initiate contact via email, phone calls, or in-person visits? Any tips on making a lasting first impression would be incredibly valuable.

We also aim to align our billing structure with hourly rates, and I am eager to hear any additional suggestions on acquiring clients or general advice for someone entering the freelance bookkeeping space.

Thank you for your insights and support as we navigate this exciting venture!
