Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture: Seeking Insight from Experienced Professionals
After a decade and a half of dedicated work in the Accounting realm, my wife is excited to take the plunge into freelancing. She’s transitioning from her roles within various organizations—including a staff accountant overseeing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company, an office manager for a real estate developer, and bookkeeper for construction and automotive businesses—into a self-directed career in Bookkeeping.
With a wealth of knowledge and practical experience, she has become proficient in QuickBooks and is diligently completing relevant certifications to solidify her expertise. Her professional website is nearing its launch, and she’s polished her engagement letter and resume, positioning herself to attract new clients.
It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services and does not hold CPA or EA designations. Instead, her target audience includes small to mid-sized businesses and startups that require a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. She excels at tidying up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities. Her emphasis on automation will also be a key selling point in her service offering.
As part of her client acquisition strategy, we plan to reach out to local CPA firms to establish connections and possibly collaborate. I’m curious about the best way to introduce herself to these firms. Would it be more effective to send an email, make a phone call, or even walk in for a face-to-face meeting? Any insights on how to create a strong first impression would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, we are open to alternative strategies for attracting clients and any general advice that can benefit her new business venture.
Thank you for your support and suggestions as we embark on this exciting journey!
