Embarking on a Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Your Insights
As my wife prepares to transition into freelance Bookkeeping, we are excited yet curious about embarking on this new venture. After dedicating 15-20 years to roles in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is eager to break free from corporate constraints and offer her expertise to clients directly. With a rich background encompassing positions such as a staff accountant overseeing payroll for over 800 employees in a cable company, as well as managerial roles in real estate development, construction, and automotive sectors, she possesses a robust skill set that positions her well for success.
Her proficiency in QuickBooks is well-established, and she’s actively pursuing additional certifications to further enhance her credentials. The final touches are being put on her website, her engagement letter has been drafted, and her resume is polished and ready for dissemination. With these essential elements in place, the next step is to begin marketing her services.
It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services and does not hold CPA or EA qualifications. Instead, her focus will be on assisting small to mid-sized businesses and startups, offering an affordable solution for those in need of bookkeeping support. Her expertise includes cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying potential cost-cutting measures—tasks that she manages with remarkable ease. Additionally, she places a strong emphasis on the importance of automation in streamlining processes.
Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms. However, I am seeking advice on the most effective way to make that first contact. What methods have others found successful? Should she reach out via email, make phone calls, or even consider a face-to-face visit? Any tips for leaving a positive first impression would be greatly appreciated.
Moreover, we are open to any other recommendations regarding acquiring clients or general insights into initiating a freelance bookkeeping practice. Your guidance would be invaluable as she embarks on this exciting new chapter.
