Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Venture: Seeking Advice from Seasoned Professionals
After many years in the Accounting world, my wife is taking a significant leap into the realm of freelance Bookkeeping. With nearly two decades of experience under her belt, she is moving away from traditional employment to offer her skills directly to clients.
Her diverse background spans various roles, including staff accountant and payroll supervisor for a large cable company, office manager for a real estate developer, and Bookkeeping for a construction and auto repair business. This extensive experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of the financial processes that drive success.
Currently, she is honing her expertise in QuickBooks and is diligently completing her certifications. Her professional website is nearing completion, and she has already drafted her engagement letter and updated her resume. With all these foundational elements in place, she is poised to begin marketing her services.
It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials. Instead, her target audience consists of small to mid-sized businesses and new ventures seeking an affordable way to manage their finances. Her offerings will include cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, preparing balance sheets, and advising clients on cost-cutting strategies. Automation will play a crucial role in her approach, helping clients streamline their bookkeeping processes.
As a first step, my wife plans to connect with local CPA firms. We are pondering the best strategies for reaching out to them—should she utilize email, or would a phone call or in-person visit be more effective? Furthermore, any insights on how to create a strong first impression would be immensely helpful.
Additionally, we welcome any other recommendations on acquiring clients or general tips for navigating this new freelance landscape. Your expertise could provide invaluable guidance as she embarks on this exciting journey.
