My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Taking the Leap: A Journey into Freelance Bookkeeping

As my wife prepares to embark on her freelance Bookkeeping career, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. With nearly two decades of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, she is ready to step away from traditional employment and carve her own path. Her background includes roles such as staff accountant and Accounting supervisor, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees in a major cable company. Additionally, she has extensive experience as an office manager and bookkeeper for various industries, including real estate development, construction, and automotive services.

Her proficiency in QuickBooks is top-notch, and she is currently completing the remaining certifications to bolster her skill set. As her website nears completion and her engagement letter is finalized, she finds herself on the cusp of marketing her services to potential clients.

It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services and isn’t a CPA or EA. Instead, her focus will be on supporting smaller, mid-sized, and emerging businesses as a cost-effective Bookkeeping solution. She excels at tidying up disorganized financial records, generating comprehensive profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and providing insightful cost-cutting recommendations—all with an emphasis on automation.

Our initial strategy involves reaching out to local CPA firms, but we would love some guidance on the best methods to make our first contact. Should we pursue email outreach, make phone calls, or even consider walking in for a face-to-face meeting? Any advice on how to make a lasting first impression would be much appreciated.

Additionally, we welcome any other suggestions for acquiring clients or general tips for establishing a successful freelance bookkeeping practice.

Thank you for your insights!
