My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Guidance from Experienced Professionals

Starting a new venture can be both exciting and daunting, especially in the world of freelance Bookkeeping. My wife is on the verge of making this leap, and we are eager to gather insights from seasoned professionals in this field.

After dedicating 15 to 20 years working in various Accounting and Bookkeeping roles, including overseeing payroll for a company with over 800 employees and managing finances for a diverse range of businesses, my wife is ready to take her expertise into the freelance realm. Her experience spans from serving as a staff accountant and office manager to working with construction, real estate development, and automotive companies. She has a firm grasp of the industry.

As she finalizes her business setup, she’s completing her QuickBooks certifications and putting the finishing touches on her website. Her engagement letter is ready, and her resume has been updated to reflect her extensive background. With these elements in place, she’s poised to start marketing her services.

It’s important to note that while she won’t be providing tax services and is not a CPA or EA, her focus lies in helping smaller to mid-sized businesses, especially newer ventures, as a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. My wife excels at organizing disorganized financial records, preparing profit and loss statements, balancing books, and identifying opportunities for cost savings with remarkable efficiency. She is also keen on automating processes to enhance productivity.

Our initial strategy involves collaborating with local CPA firms, but we’re at a crossroads regarding the best method to approach them. Should she reach out via email, make a phone call, or perhaps visit in person? Additionally, any advice on how to create a memorable first impression would be immensely helpful.

We plan to implement an hourly billing structure, but we’re also open to any other suggestions for attracting clients and general best practices in the freelance bookkeeping landscape.

We appreciate all insights and guidance as we embark on this new journey. Thank you!
