Embarking on a New Freelance Journey: Insights for Aspiring Bookkeepers
After years of dedicated service in the Accounting and Bookkeeping sectors, my wife is preparing to branch out on her own. With nearly two decades of experience across various industries—including payroll management for a large cable company and Bookkeeping for real estate development and construction firms—she is well-equipped to tackle the challenges of freelance Bookkeeping.
Her expertise extends to using QuickBooks, and she is currently completing the remaining certifications to bolster her skillset. Almost everything is in place: her new website is on the verge of launch, the engagement letter is ready, and her resume has been updated. With so much preparation behind us, she’s eager to begin marketing her services to potential clients.
It’s important to note that she will not be providing tax services, nor is she a CPA or EA. Instead, her aim is to serve small to mid-sized businesses and startups, offering them a cost-effective solution for their bookkeeping needs. She specializes in streamlining messy financial records, generating profit and loss statements, maintaining balance sheets, and identifying areas for cost reduction. Efficiency and automation will be key focuses in her practice.
To kick off her client acquisition strategy, we plan to reach out to local CPA firms. However, we’re unsure of the best method to make initial contact. Should she send a formal email, make a phone call, or perhaps visit in person? We’re eager for advice from seasoned freelance bookkeepers who have navigated similar paths. What approaches have worked well for you?
Additionally, we are open to any recommendations on attracting clients and building a successful freelance bookkeeping business.
Thank you for your insights and support as we embark on this exciting new chapter.
