Title: Starting a Freelance Bookkeeping Journey: Seeking Advice from Experienced Professionals
As my wife prepares to embark on her freelance Bookkeeping career, we’re reaching out to the community for insights and advice. After successfully navigating various Accounting and Bookkeeping roles for the past 15-20 years, she is ready to take the leap into self-employment. Her extensive background includes positions such as a staff accountant overseeing payroll for over 800 employees at a cable company and serving as an office manager for a real estate developer, among other roles.
With proficiency in QuickBooks and a commitment to completing all relevant certifications, her professional website is nearing completion, and her engagement letter and resume are updated. She is poised to start marketing her services to potential clients.
It’s important to note that she will not be offering tax services and does not hold CPA or EA credentials. Instead, her target clientele includes smaller, mid-sized, or newer businesses seeking a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. She excels in cleaning up disorganized financial records, producing profit and loss statements, balancing sheets, and identifying cost-cutting opportunities, all while emphasizing the importance of automation.
Our initial strategy involves collaborating with local CPA firms to establish connections. We’re curious about the best methods for approaching these firms. Should we reach out via email, make phone calls, or perhaps visit them in person? Additionally, we’re eager to hear any tips for making a positive first impression.
As we navigate this exciting transition, we are also open to any general advice on acquiring clients and setting up a successful freelance bookkeeping practice. Your insights will be invaluable to us as we move forward in this new venture.
