Transitioning to Freelance Bookkeeping: Seeking Insights and Advice
After years of dedicated service in the Accounting field, my wife is excited to take her professional journey in a new direction—she’s ready to embark on her freelance Bookkeeping adventure. With nearly two decades of experience under her belt, she has held diverse roles, including staff accountant and Accounting supervisor for a large cable company, as well as office manager and bookkeeper in various industries such as real estate development, construction, and automotive services. Her extensive background equips her with a strong foundation in Bookkeeping and Accounting.
Currently, my wife is refining her expertise in QuickBooks, having completed several relevant certifications. Furthermore, her website is nearing completion, and she has finalized her engagement letter alongside an updated resume. With everything shaping up, she is on the verge of initiating her client outreach efforts.
It’s important to note that her services will focus on bookkeeping rather than tax services, as she is neither a CPA nor an EA. Her target clientele consists of small to mid-sized businesses, especially newer operators seeking cost-effective bookkeeping solutions. She is adept at streamlining messy accounts, generating profit and loss statements and balance sheets, and providing insightful suggestions for cost reductions—all while emphasizing automation as a key strategy.
Our initial plan involves reaching out to local CPA firms as potential allies in her new venture. We’re contemplating the best method to make contact with them—be it via email, phone calls, or in-person visits. Any recommendations on how to make a lasting first impression would be incredibly valuable.
Additionally, we are open to suggestions on crafting her client acquisition strategy, billing methods, and any other pertinent advice that could help her thrive in this new endeavor.
Thank you for your insights and support as we navigate this exciting transition!
