Finding the Right Balance: Managing Networking Calls Effectively
In today’s digital age, networking has taken on new forms, with platforms like Alignable and LinkedIn facilitating a myriad of connection opportunities. However, a common challenge many professionals face is managing the influx of requests that often come with the invitation to “jump on a call.”
I often find myself inundated with messages asking if I’d be interested in a brief chat to explore mutual benefits. While many of these calls can lead to valuable connections, they can also monopolize my calendar and divert my attention from other important tasks.
In seeking an optimal balance, I’m contemplating dedicating one day each week specifically for these networking calls. This would allow me to keep the door open for new connections without overwhelming my schedule. Additionally, setting clear criteria for the types of calls I accept may also prove beneficial. For instance, while collaboration is key, I’m not particularly interested in expanding my network with additional payroll providers right now.
So, how do you manage these informal chats? Do you set aside specific times for networking, or do you have a strategy for discerning which calls are worth your time? Sharing your experiences could help many navigate this common dilemma in our increasingly connected world.
