My wife is almost ready to start taking on clients – looking for advice from experienced freelance bookkeepers.

Launching a Freelance Bookkeeping Business: Seeking Insights from Experienced Professionals

As my wife prepares to embark on her freelance Bookkeeping journey, we are excited yet keenly aware of the challenges ahead. After nearly two decades in the Accounting and Bookkeeping realm, she is ready to transition from the corporate world to offering her expertise on her own terms.

Her professional background is impressive, encompassing roles such as staff accountant and Accounting supervisor, where she managed payroll for over 800 employees at a major cable company. Additionally, she has served as an office manager and bookkeeper for various sectors, including real estate development, construction, and automotive services. This extensive experience gives her a solid foundation to build upon as she steps into the freelance arena.

Currently, she is finalizing her website and completing her QuickBooks certifications, which will enhance her credibility and service offerings. She has already prepared essential business documents, such as her engagement letter and an updated resume, making her ready to attract potential clients.

While she will not provide tax services and is not a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA), her focus will be on supporting small to mid-sized businesses and new ventures by offering a cost-effective bookkeeping solution. Her skills in cleaning up disorganized financial records, generating profit and loss statements, compiling balance sheets, and identifying cost-saving measures are impressive. Moreover, her emphasis on automation will undoubtedly streamline processes for her clients.

As a foundational step, we plan to connect with local CPA firms to explore potential partnerships or referrals. However, I am curious about the best approach to initiate these conversations. Should we reach out via email, make phone calls, or consider a face-to-face visit? Additionally, I would appreciate any advice on how to make a strong first impression during these interactions.

We are also open to suggestions regarding client acquisition strategies or general advice that could assist her in establishing a successful freelance bookkeeping business. Your insights would be greatly valued as she takes this exciting step forward.

Thank you for your guidance!
