I’ve been job hopping every 1-2 years and need advice.

Seeking Guidance on Job Mobility: A Professional’s Dilemma

Transitioning between jobs can be a delicate endeavor, and it’s a journey that many professionals face at some point in their careers. After spending approximately six years in the tax sector, I find myself in a challenging predicament regarding my employment history. My resume, owing to my frequent job changes every one to two years, can seem somewhat bleak, and I am reaching out for insight on how to navigate my future career moves.

Throughout the pandemic, I seized opportunities to advance my salary incrementally as I diligently worked towards becoming debt-free. However, this approach heavily influenced my decision to switch positions more often than I would have liked, as I prioritized financial stability over long-term commitment to any one company. Now, approaching the two-year mark in my current position, I feel a sense of comfort and stability. However, I am contemplating relocating to another state, which raises concerns about my credibility and work ethic in the eyes of potential employers.

While my current manager is enthusiastic about my progression to a partner level, I find myself hesitating due to the high cost of living in the area and the impact it may have on my family time. This leaves me at a crossroads: should I begin applying for new opportunities and hope for understanding from prospective employers regarding my employment history, or would it be more prudent to consider omitting some of my past roles from my resume?

I am eager to hear from anyone who may have experienced a similar situation and successfully navigated their career path. What strategies did you employ, and what advice would you offer? Any insights into balancing career advancement with family priorities while also maintaining a strong resume would be greatly appreciated.
