Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Title: Overcoming Challenges in Transitioning to Public Accounting: A Call for Advice

Navigating the job market can be particularly challenging, especially when making a significant career shift. Recently, I achieved a personal milestone by passing all sections of the CPA exam and accumulating 150 college credits. My professional background includes roles as a Financial Analyst and Operations Analyst, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I have a strong command of tools like Excel and Power BI, making me comfortable working with complex datasets.

With aspirations to transition into public Accounting and establish a future in the United States, I relocated to Texas to pursue opportunities in this field. However, I’ve encountered substantial hurdles in my job search. Many Accounting firms appear to have stringent requirements that include possessing a U.S. accounting degree and at least a year of public accounting experience—criteria I unfortunately do not meet.

Despite my extensive analytical background, securing interviews has proven to be a daunting task. What’s more, my salary expectations are reasonable, around $60,000, and I am open to relocating anywhere in search of a suitable position, including local CPA firms.

Pursuing a master’s program currently isn’t feasible due to my responsibilities as a dependent provider, leaving me in a tough spot.

I would love to hear from anyone who has faced similar challenges in breaking into public accounting without the conventional credentials or local experience. Your insights, advice, or any strategies you used to overcome these barriers would be immensely appreciated. Let’s share our experiences and support one another in finding our career paths!
