Breaking Into Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After Passing the CPA Exam
Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out today to share my journey and seek some advice as I navigate the challenging landscape of public Accounting. Recently, I successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam and currently hold 150 college credits. My professional background includes experience as both a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in the logistics sector, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I’m particularly adept at utilizing tools such as Excel and Power BI for data analysis.
Having decided to pivot into public Accounting to facilitate a long-term move to the U.S., I recently relocated to Texas. However, I’ve encountered some significant obstacles. Many firms appear to have specific prerequisites, notably:
- A U.S. accounting degree
- At least one year of experience in public accounting
Unfortunately, I don’t meet these criteria, which has made securing interviews quite challenging.
I’m open to opportunities—my salary expectation is around $60,000, and I would even consider relocation to find the right fit, including local CPA firms. While pursuing a master’s program could enhance my qualifications, it isn’t a feasible option for me at the moment due to my responsibilities as a caretaker.
I’d like to connect with anyone who may have faced a similar situation. If you have any tips or insights on successfully entering the public accounting field without local credentials or relevant experience, your guidance would be immensely helpful. Thank you in advance for your support!
