Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Navigating Career Transition: Seeking Opportunities in Public Accounting Without Traditional Credentials

Transitioning into a new field can be a daunting journey, especially in a landscape as competitive as public Accounting. As someone who has successfully passed the CPA exam, holds 150 college credits, and brings experience as both a Financial Analyst and Operations Analyst in logistics, I have a strong foundation in data management, planning, and reporting. Proficiency in Excel and Power BI further enhances my skill set.

A Shift Towards Public Accounting

Currently based in Texas, my goal is to pivot my career into public Accounting to facilitate a long-term move to the U.S. However, I’ve encountered significant obstacles in securing interviews. Many firms appear to prioritize candidates with a U.S. accounting degree and at least a year of public accounting experience—qualifications I don’t possess at the moment.

Open Opportunities

Despite these hurdles, I’m not overly selective about the positions I’m willing to consider. A role with a salary around $60K would be acceptable, and I am open to relocating, including positions at local CPA firms. Unfortunately, pursuing a master’s degree is not feasible for me right now, as I have a dependent to care for.

Seeking Guidance from the Community

I know I can’t be the only one facing this challenge, and I would greatly appreciate any advice or insight from those who have made similar transitions. If you have successfully navigated the path into public accounting without local credentials or experience, your experiences could be incredibly beneficial to someone in my position.

Your support and suggestions would mean a lot as I navigate this challenging yet exciting transition. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to any advice the community might offer!
