Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Navigating the Job Market After Passing the CPA Exam: Seeking Guidance for Transitioning into Public Accounting

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share that I have successfully completed all sections of the CPA exam and have accumulated 150 credits toward my qualifications. My professional background includes experience as a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst within the logistics sector, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I’m adept at working with data and have a strong command of Excel and Power BI.

With a desire to transition into public Accounting as part of a long-term move to the United States, I’ve recently settled in Texas. However, I’ve encountered a significant hurdle in my job search. It seems that many firms are looking for candidates who possess:

  • A U.S.-based Accounting degree
  • At least one year of direct experience in public accounting

Unfortunately, I lack both of these qualifications, which has made securing interviews quite challenging.

I’m open to various positions, ideally around a $60K salary, and I’m flexible with relocation, including opportunities with local CPA firms. Pursuing a master’s degree isn’t an option for me at this time, as I have a dependent to support.

I’m reaching out to see if anyone here has experienced a similar transition. I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights on how to break into the public Accounting field without local credentials or relevant experience. Your support and guidance would mean a lot to me during this pivotal move in my career. Thank you!
