Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Navigating the Job Market Post-CPA Exam: Seeking Guidance on Breaking into Public Accounting

Hello, readers!

I recently achieved a significant milestone by passing all sections of the CPA exam, and I hold 150 credit hours toward my education. My professional journey includes valuable experience as a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst within the logistics sector, where I honed my planning, reporting, and data management skills. I’m quite adept at handling data and have a solid command of tools like Excel and Power BI.

With aspirations of transitioning into public Accounting as part of my long-term plan to settle in the U.S., I’m now stationed in Texas. Unfortunately, I find myself facing considerable challenges in securing interviews.

It seems that many Accounting firms have stringent requirements, such as:

  • A U.S.-based Accounting degree.
  • A minimum of one year of public accounting experience.

Regrettably, I do not meet these prerequisites, which has made breaking into the field quite challenging.

I am open to various opportunities, ideally aiming for a salary around $60,000, and I am willing to consider positions anywhere, including smaller local CPA firms. Pursuing a master’s degree isn’t a feasible option for me at this time due to personal responsibilities.

I’m reaching out to the community to see if anyone has navigated a similar path. If you have insights or strategies for successfully entering the public accounting arena without local credentials or experience, I would greatly appreciate your advice! Thank you in advance for your support.
