I quit big4 about 10 months ago. I still have 2 laptops from them (one that doesn’t work)

Navigating Equipment Returns After Leaving a Big Firm: A Personal Experience

Leaving a significant job, especially at a large firm, comes with its own set of challenges. About ten months ago, I made the decision to part ways with my position at one of the Big Four Accounting firms. While the transition was necessary for my personal and professional growth, I’ve found myself facing an unexpected hurdle: the return of company equipment.

Upon my departure, I completed a survey to notify the firm about the items I still possessed, including two laptops—one of which is non-functional. I indicated my need for a shipping label and boxes, as commuting 40 minutes to return equipment—complete with parking expenses—was not an ideal option for someone who was primarily working remotely at the time.

Despite my initial efforts, I never received the promised shipping materials. After a reasonable wait, I decided to reach out directly. Unfortunately, my call was redirected to a different office due to a lack of response in my original department. The representative I spoke with took down my details, assuring me that someone would reach out to resolve the issue, but, as has become a familiar refrain, I never received a follow-up.

Now, several months later, I’m confronted with the reality that these two laptops have taken up valuable space in my home office, which is increasingly necessary for my current job. While I recognize that I should make another attempt to contact the firm, I can’t help but feel that the process of returning these items shouldn’t be this convoluted.

This experience serves as a reminder of the sometimes frustrating bureaucracy within large organizations, even after you’ve moved on. As I prepare to tackle this challenge once more, I’m hopeful that my next call will finally lead to a resolution, freeing up my workspace and closing this chapter of my professional journey. If anyone else has faced similar situations, I would love to hear your advice or experiences!
