Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Breaking Into Public Accounting: Seeking Guidance After CPA Success

Hello, everyone!

I am excited to share that I have successfully passed all sections of the CPA exam and hold 150 college credits. My professional background includes experience as a Financial Analyst and an Operations Analyst in the logistics sector, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I’m proficient with data analytics tools, particularly Excel and Power BI, which I use to derive insights and aid decision-making.

Recently, I’ve decided to pivot my career toward public Accounting with the intent of establishing a long-term presence in the U.S. I’m currently based in Texas, but I’m encountering several obstacles in my job search. Many Accounting firms I have applied to seem to have strict criteria for applicants, requiring:

  • A U.S. accounting degree
  • At least one year of experience in public accounting

Unfortunately, I do not meet these requirements, and finding an opportunity to interview has proven to be quite challenging.

I want to clarify that I am open to various possibilities—I’m looking for positions that offer around $60K and am willing to relocate if necessary. Even roles at local CPA firms are of interest to me. Considering my current situation, enrolling in a master’s program is not feasible since I have a dependent to support.

Does anyone in this community have experience transitioning into public accounting under similar circumstances? Any advice or insights on how to break into the field without local credentials or relevant experience would be incredibly valuable to me. Thank you in advance for your support!
