Passed CPA Exam, Have Analytics + FP&A Background, but No One Will Interview Me – What Can I Do?

Navigating the Path to Public Accounting: Seeking Advice for a Successful Transition

Hello, readers!

I am excited to share my journey and seek your insights as I navigate the challenging landscape of public Accounting. After passing all sections of the CPA exam and accumulating 150 credit hours in my education, I find myself at a crossroads in Texas.

My background includes valuable experience as a Financial Analyst, as well as an Operations Analyst in the logistics sector, where I honed my skills in planning, reporting, and data management. I am comfortable with data analysis and possess proficiency in tools like Excel and Power BI. With a vision of transitioning into public Accounting to create a lasting career in the U.S., I anticipated the change would be straightforward. However, I have encountered significant hurdles in my job search.

Many firms primarily seek candidates who possess a U.S. accounting degree and at least one year of experience in public accounting. Unfortunately, I do not fit this profile, which has limited my opportunities considerably. Despite my eagerness to dive into this field, I’ve faced difficulty even securing interviews.

I am flexible with my job expectations—I’m open to positions around $60K and am willing to relocate anywhere, including smaller local CPA firms. Pursuing a master’s degree isn’t feasible for me at this time as I have dependents to support, making this transition even more critical.

I turn to this community today: Have any of you experienced a similar situation in your career? I would greatly appreciate your advice, tips, or personal stories about breaking into public accounting without local credentials or experience. Your guidance would mean a lot as I strive to navigate this challenging process.

Thank you for your time and support!
