I’ve been job hopping every 1-2 years and need advice.

Navigating Job Hopping: Seeking Guidance for Career Advancement

In the ever-evolving landscape of professional careers, the journey can often be marked by unexpected turns and decisions that shape our futures. I’m reaching out to seek advice on a personal crossroads I’m facing.

For the past six years, I have dedicated myself to the field of taxation, but my resume tells a story that feels disheartening. My tendency to change jobs every one to two years has been largely influenced by the financial strain brought on by the pandemic. I utilized this period as an opportunity to pursue incremental salary increases, sometimes at the expense of long-term stability. Although I’ve achieved freedom from debt, the reality of my past positions has left my resume appearing less than robust.

As I approach the two-year mark in my current role, I’ve found a layer of comfort, particularly with my boss actively advocating for my advancement to a partner level. However, the thought of taking on such responsibilities in a high-cost living area weighs heavily on my mind. I find myself at a pivotal moment where I may consider relocating, but I’m plagued by doubts about how my job-hopping history might reflect on my work ethic.

My question is simple yet complex: should I begin applying for new opportunities and trust that potential employers will recognize my circumstances, or would it be advisable to leave certain job experiences off my resume? Have any of you faced similar situations? If so, how did you navigate this challenge and what steps did you take to ensure career progression?

I appreciate any insights or advice you may have as I embark on this next chapter. Thank you for your support!
