Navigating the Job Market: Insights on Securing a Senior Fund Accountant Position in NYC
As professionals consider their career trajectories, many are intrigued by the opportunities within vibrant job markets like New York City, particularly in finance-focused sectors such as private equity, private credit, and hedge funds. If you’re contemplating a move to NYC and wondering about your job prospects in these industries, you’re not alone.
Recently, I received my green card and am gearing up for a relocation to the Big Apple. With 7 years of experience under my belt—primarily in senior fund accountant and financial reporting analyst positions—I find myself evaluating the landscape for similar roles in NYC. Most of my career thus far has been client-facing, with significant experience in private credit, private equity, and hedge fund environments, including work with fund administrators.
However, I face a challenge: I do not possess North American educational credentials. On the upside, I hold the CFA charter, which adds a valuable layer to my qualifications. This leads me to seek clarity on the following question: How realistic is it for me to secure a Senior Fund Accountant position at a fund (not a fund administrator) in New York City?
Are hiring firms receptive to candidates with international experience, especially when supported by a CFA charter and substantial client-facing exposure?
I invite feedback and insights from professionals currently working in NYC’s finance sector or others who have undergone a similar transition. Your experiences and advice would be greatly appreciated as I navigate this exciting yet daunting career move. Thank you!
