Thinking about leaving the US – What should I do career-wise?

Contemplating an International Career Move: A Senior’s Journey to Europe Post-Graduation

As I embark on my final year of college this September, I find myself navigating the critical transition from student to professional. I’m on track to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting without any student loans, which is a significant achievement in today’s educational landscape. My immediate plan is to dive into preparing for the CPA exams next May, as this certification will be essential in propelling my career forward.

This summer, I am fortunate to secure an internship at a prestigious Top-20 firm specializing in Audit. Earlier this year, I gained experience through a Tax internship at a local firm, and they have graciously invited me to return starting this September, continuing through April 2026. This combination of internships is providing me with valuable insight and hands-on experience in the Accounting field.

However, in recent times, I have begun to contemplate my future in the United States. A growing sense of uncertainty regarding the direction of the country has led me to seriously consider a professional relocation to Europe after graduation. My primary concern is ensuring that I can secure a fulfilling career in Accounting upon making such a significant life change.

I am grappling with the idea of potentially working my way into an international firm, hoping this could make the transition smoother and provide job security if I decide to relocate. I understand the importance of gaining enough experience before making any big decisions, and I want to ensure that I don’t become overly entrenched in the U.S. job market while also being realistic about my future prospects.

Despite the uncertainties that lay ahead, I recognize that I have time to ponder my options further. Nevertheless, I have long harbored the belief that moving abroad could be the best path towards a promising future.

As I continue this journey, I would love to hear any insights or advice from those who have faced similar crossroads. How did you navigate your own transitions, and what steps did you take to successfully establish a career internationally? Your experiences could be invaluable as I chart my course forward.
