Securing My Off-Cycle Internship in Wealth Management: A Journey of Persistence
Breaking into the competitive world of finance can feel like an uphill battle, especially for those of us starting from a semi-target business school in France. After submitting over 150 applications for market finance positions and facing the challenges of having no prior experience in the industry, I received a call today that brought me immense joy—I secured an internship in wealth management!
The journey was anything but smooth. I navigated through countless case studies, endured numerous interviews, and engaged in a series of conversations that often felt tedious and uninspiring. But perseverance paid off, and I am now part of a mid-sized wealth management firm with approximately €1 billion in assets under management. This was the field I aspired to enter; about one-third of my applications were tailored specifically to wealth management roles.
To those of you who might be feeling disheartened in your job search, let my experience serve as a reminder: desperation often signifies that you haven’t pushed hard enough. Motivation can often lead us astray; what truly matters is discipline and the persistence to keep submitting applications. Your hard work and determination will ultimately yield results. Keep grinding!
