80 years old, no degree, and no teeth. Is it too late?

Hey everyone,

I’m an 80-year-old man who has spent the last 65 years working on a factory floor. I also have a veteran badge from my time in ‘Nam. Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit tired of the factory life and wondering if it’s worth pursuing a degree and aiming to work for one of the Big 4 companies. Do you think it’s too late for me to make a change, or is there still hope?

  1. Hey there,

Firstly, I just want to say thank you for your service in ‘Nam. Your veteran badge is a testament to your dedication and bravery.

Age should never be a barrier to pursuing your dreams and making a change in your career path. At 80 years old, you have a lifetime of experience and knowledge that can be valuable in any industry. The fact that you have worked on a factory floor for so long shows your work ethic and commitment.

While not having a degree may seem like a roadblock, there are still plenty of opportunities available to you. Many companies value experience and skills over education credentials. With your background, you may have developed valuable skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability that can be transferable to different roles.

If you are considering pursuing a degree, it’s never too late to go back to school. Many universities offer programs tailored for mature students, and there are online options available that can offer flexibility in terms of scheduling.

Breaking into the Big 4 may be a challenge, but with your determination and experience, it is definitely possible. Networking and showcasing your skills and accomplishments can help you stand out to potential employers.

Regarding your teeth, it’s worth noting that dental health is important for overall well-being. There are options available such as dentures or dental implants that can help restore your smile.

In conclusion, it is not too late to make a change in your career path. Your age and lack of degree should not hold you back from pursuing your goals. Stay determined, keep learning and growing, and you may find success in a new role that aligns with your aspirations.

Best of luck on your journey!
